THE GAME
- First time for the tournament to be hosted by an African Nation, after South Africa beat Morocco and Egypt in the bidding process.
- Scheduled to start from 11 June – 11 July.
- Comprising 32 teams, 10 stadiums and 9 host cities.
- Fifa World Cup will be the 19th World Cup.
- It is a culmination of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA National teams.
THE BALL
- The Match Ball will be named “Jabulani”.
- The Ball is made by Adidas.
- Jabulani means “bringing joy to everyone” in isiZulu.
- The number 11 (eleven) plays a prominent role in the new technologically advanced ball.
- It is the 11th (eleventh) World Cup match ball made by the German Sports equipment maker.
- The Match ball features 11 (eleven) colours.
- The 11 Colours represents one for each player on the football pitch.
- There are 11 (eleven) official languages in South Africa.
